We&#8217;re going to see a lot more of this. The military robot sector is booming and well funded through the USA&#8217;s $145bn <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Future_Combat_Systems\">Future Combat Systems<\/a> (FCS) programme. Robots (the name derives from the Czech <em>vobota<\/em>, for forced labour) are seen as battlefield lifesavers, which doubtless they are for the side that controls them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On a lighter robotic note, cuddly dinosaur robot <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pleoworld.com\/\">Pleo<\/a> continues to wow pundits with its cuteness and personality capability &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/technology\/7628796.stm\">tested here<\/a>, while in Japan, this <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/technology\/7633342.stm\">unicycle riding robot<\/a> demonstrated state of the art balance. Balance, particularly in pseudo-human robots with legs, is one of the big challenges for robot engineers.
